Abu Dhabi: Court extended judicial custody of MM Ramachandran, owner of Atlas Jewellery Group, until October 29.
However, in a plea to the judge, he asked to be set free so he could personally oversee the settlement of all the outstanding debt against his group.
The judge rejected his plea on the basis that he was only presiding over the hearing as the judged handling the case was unavailable.
According to Emirates 247, lawyers of Ramachandran requested the judge to extend the judicial custody as they needed more time to study all the documents related to the case.
Dubai-based gold and jewellery retailer MM Ramachandran has defaulted on loans worth AED 500 million ($136 m).
