HORSERACING – STAYA, owned by Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, claimed an impressive victory yesterday in a Listed Race in the UK.
The George Scott-trained two-year-old, competing in the colours of KHK Racing Ltd, won the Listed 50 Years Together Coral Dragon Stakes, held over a five-furlong distance at Sandown Park Racecourse. Ridden by jockey Callum Shepherd, Staya and Shepherd worked their way from mid-field and over the final yards managed to get ahead of runner-up Military Code, who came a narrow second place for owners Godolphin, trainer Charlie Appleby, and jockey William Buick.
Further behind in third was Killavia, competing for Mainline Racing, Rod Millman, and Lewis Edmunds.
Staya’s triumph continued the recent sensational form of KHK Racing horses owned by Shaikh Khalid, who is the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president.
Meanwhile, Front Line Fury, owned by His Majesty King Hamad’s humanitarian work and youth affairs representative and SCYS chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, won the class four Glow Heated Glass Nursery Handicap (Jockey Club Grassroots Nursery Series) held on Thursday at Haydock Park Racecourse, also in the UK.
Front Line Fury, riding for Shaikh Nasser’s Victorious Racing, took first place in the six-furlong event, also for Scott and Shepherd.
The two-year-old had a sensational three-length’s gap from second-placer Adalida at the finish, racing for Derek J Willis, trainer David Evans, and jockey JF Egan. Sporting Light was third for Sporting Life Racing Club, Richard Fahey, and Cam Hardie.
