It was interesting to read the words of Simon Galpin of the EDB in your newspaper (GDN, January 24). It was indeed noble of him to state that they are now looking to attract quality jobs, by which they mean jobs paying more than 700 dinars per month. Maybe they are creating impossible dreams for jobseekers. The hard reality is that civilised countries need workers doing boring and routine work every day to keep the country running smoothly, and somebody has to do those jobs. It would be nice for us all to have a quality job but it is not possible.
But employers can create motivation in various ways especially by creating teams and being appreciative. Maybe many routine manual jobs can be delegated to a foreign labour force but, until automation and information technology have taken over, there will still be a need for the everyday jobs – traffic police and paramedics for example. Shop assistants and bus drivers. Butchers, bakers, farmers and truck drivers. Without these the country will go downhill very fast.
