Sharjah: A dominant show of their bowling might, studded by an Imran Tahir hat-trick helped Multan Sultans crush Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League yesterday.
Tahir and Sohail Tahir took six wickets between them to shoot Quetta out for 102 before Kumar Sangakkara scored a breezy half-century to take Multan level on points (7) with table-toppers Karachi Kings albeit having played a game extra.
Shane Watson and Umar Amir put on 27 for the first wicket inside four overs before Tanvir dismissed the latter. Junaid Khan then struck in successive overs to remove Rameez Raja and Watson as Quetta’s good start quickly dissipated.
But the final moments of the first innings belonged to Tahir. Off the second ball of the 16th over, a slider proved too quick for Hasan Khan to handle and knocked out the leg stump. John Hastings was done in by a Tahir googly and poor Rahat Ali anticipated the hat-trick ball to be another googly but Tahir was one step ahead and slipped in the quicker one and caught him right in front of the stumps.
Brief scores: Quetta Gladiators 102 in 15.4 overs (Sarfraz Ahmed 30; Sohail Tanvir 3-14, Imran Tahir 3-19) lost to Multan Sultans 108-1 in 16.4 overs (Kumar Sangakkara 51*) by 9 wickets
