Manama: Bahrain’s Meteorological Directorate has confirmed recording tremors in the country from an earthquake in Southern Iran.
The tremors were felt in high-rise buildings in the Diplomatic Area, Juffair and the Seef District this morning.
According to witnesses, people from these buildings were evacuated moments after the tremors were felt at around 9.30am.
“The Bahrain Seismic Station of the Meteorological Directorate had detected at 9.34am Bahrain local time an earthquake, 243km to the North East of Bahrain, with a magnitude of 5.7 Richter Scale and with 41.8 km depth,” said the directorate in a statement.
“Some people in Bahrain had felt the earthquake.”
