Muharraq were crowned this year’s Super Cup champions after defeating Al Najma 5-6 in penalty shootout last night at Bahrain National Stadium pitch.
The full time ended at 2-2.
It was Muharraq’s fourth Super Cup title and second for their national coach Salman Shireeda after winning his first in 1995 also with the same team.
The first half ended 1-0 for Muharraq, with the goal coming in the 37th minute from Tunisian Zeyad Al Derbali who headed into the net from a fine cross by Jamal Rashid. Muharraq scored again in the 59th minute through Mohammed Soola.
However, Al Najma came back to score two goals in less than 10 minutes.
Their first goal came in the 72nd minute through Ibrahim Habeeb’s penalty kick before Mamado’s equaliser in the 81st minute.
In the penalty shootout, Ismael Abdullatif, Ali Jamal, Sayed Mohammed Jaffar and Abdulla Abdo scored while Waleed Al Hayyam and Mohammed Soola missed for Muharraq.
For Al Najma, they scored through Pascal, Ibrahim Habeeb and Mamado, while Moayyed Kholi, Ali Madan and Emad Abdulla missed.
After the match, Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar along with Bahrain Football Association president Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa presented the trophy and gold medals to Muharraq team members, and silver medals to Al Najma.
