Muscat: The number of expatriates living in Oman dropped to 43.7 per cent of the overall population in the country, according to Times of Oman.
According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information, the current number of expats in Oman is the lowest since July 2015.
The number of expatriates stood at 2,040,274 as of February 2019, accounting for 43.7pc of the country’s total population.
In July 2015, expatriates accounted for 43.6pc of the overall population of Oman.
On February 25, 2018, the number of expatriates made up 45.1pc of the overall population, dropping from 45.9pc in 2017.
Indian nationals account for 36.9pc of all expat workers in Oman, followed by Bangladeshi nationals at 36.8pc.
The number of Indians, Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals in Oman dropped by 4.1pc, 4.8pc, and 7.3pc, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
Oman’s high Quality of Life Ranking in the Expat Insider 2018 survey shows that expats still rate the country as a good place to work.
Oman was ranked third among the GCC states, with the UAE and Bahrain finishing above Oman, while Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait trailed the Sultanate.
