FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN’S under-23 Olympic football team kick off their campaign today in a four-nation international tournament in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The kingdom’s representatives take on their counterparts from Oman in a game scheduled for a 5pm kick-off, Bahrain time, at Dostuk Arena in the village of Besh-Kungey.
Also competing in the event are the Olympic teams of Syria and hosts Kyrgyzstan, who face off in today’s other fixture at Dolen Omurzakov Stadium in the country’s capital.
The under-23 nationals are in the competition as part of their preparations for the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers.
Prior to today’s start of action, Olympic team manager Abdulla Al Mutawa attended the official technical meeting yesterday alongside representatives from the other participating squads and organisers.
During the gathering, all administrative matters related to the tournament were agreed upon, including the uniforms the teams will be wearing in each of the matches.
Following today’s fixture, Bahrain take on Syria on Sunday, and then play their concluding assignment against the home side on Wednesday next week.
Olympic team head coach Ali Abdulmajeed has selected a 26-player squad for the tournament. The roster includes Abdulla Freah, Ashraf Mubarak, Mohammed Khalifa, Jawad Ali, Bader Al Asam, Salman Younis, Mohammed Al Shehani, Abdulla Al Qassab, Hashem Khulaifat, Issa Abdulla, Abdulrahman Al Khayyat, Rashid Mujiran, Abdulrahman Aboud, Mahmood Al Bannai, Ramzi Abdulla, Abdulla Al Obaidli, Hassan Sameer, Ali Tarada, Saud Mohsen, Mohammed Ahmed, Ali Sahwan, Salem Al Dosari, Khaled Khalaf, Mubarak Mohammed, Saad Al Attar, and Sayed Ahmed Alwadaie.
