GULF Air has the highest percentage of nationals working as pilots for the airline in the region, according to chief executive Krešimir Kucko.
The overall percentage of Bahraini pilots in the national carrier exceeds 70 per cent, he revealed.
“What we have overall in terms of Bahrainisation, which means nationals working in the airline, is without comparison to any country in the region,” he said.
“If you look at the most delicate part in terms of skills needed like pilots we are exceeding 70pc now. This is really a great achievement for any company in the world, for growing companies in the region and even in the Far East.
“We are working closely with Tamkeen and we are grateful for their support.
“Our joint training activity has 60 pilots, and first officers as well.
Thanks to the programme, the airline will soon have an additional 15 pilots, all of them Bahrainis.
The GDN previously reported that pilots at Gulf Air have formed their own trade union, the first of its kind in the GCC, in the wake of a staffing shortage that forced the cancellation of several flights last month.
At the time Mr Kucko said Gulf Air employed 362 pilots and whilst five had tendered their resignations, the carrier has hired 18 new pilots.
He also stressed that less than two per cent of the airline’s flights were cancelled last month, affecting just one pc of Gulf Air passengers.
