Manama: Bahrain’s new house-building programme will go full speed ahead – despite economic constraints caused by the oil price.
And Housing Minister Bassem Al Hamer said he sees the private sector playing a bigger role in the government’s social housing programme by 2018-19. The ministry is also actively exploring more public-private partnerships on the lines of prior agreements with Naseej and Diyar Al Muharraq for long-term sustainability given the large and persistent drop in oil prices which have halved government revenues, he said.
He was speaking to the GDN on the sidelines of the Bahrain International Modern House 2016 exhibition, which was inaugurated yesterday by Deputy Premier Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.
Mr Al Hamer said the ministry’s 40,000 housing units programme was on track despite economic constraints.
