Dubai: The Municipality of Dubai unveiled plans to deploy 230 smart bins during the first half of next year (2020).
An initial batch of 100 environment-friendly containers will be deployed as part of the first phase of the latest device in smart waste management solutions.
Waste Management director Abdulmajid Sifai said that the smart bins will facilitate waste storage and sorting which would enhance recycling operations.
The new initiative is part of an ambitious plan to recycle up to 75 per cent of waste in the emirate of Dubai by 2021 – up from 32pc last year (2018).
The smart bins are fitted with hi-tech devices and ultrasonic sensors that monitor waste in real-time with the help of sophisticated software and communicate the fill level so as to optimize waste collection routes, pick-up frequencies, and vehicle loads.
