Muscat: Mwasalat buses may soon get a dedicated lane as Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) is planning to revamp public transport system in the country.
The success of Mwasalat buses has made ministry to think over constructing air-conditioned bus stations and a dedicated lane for buses.
“The special lane will be launched in coordination with the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and can be used during the time of emergency,” Times of Oman quoted Eng Salim bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi as saying. He is currently the Undersecretary for Transport Affairs, Ministry of Transport and Communications.
Also, new routes are likely to open in the first quarter of 2016.
“These new routes will be Ruwi-Muttrah and Ruwi-Al Amerat,” Eng Salim Al Nuaimi said.
According to official data, roughly 9000 passengers use Mwasalat buses every day along routes connecting Ruwi to other places.
