TICKETS for performances to be staged during the Spring of Culture festival will go on sale today.
The annual festival, organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) and the Economic Development Board (EDB), will kick off next week with a dance performance at the Bahrain National Theatre.
At 12pm today tickets for shows organised by the EDB will go on sale at the festival’s official kiosk at City Centre Bahrain or online through the festival’s website, www.springofculture.org.
The shows are Gregory Porter, Kadim Al Sahir, Kaash, Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales, and L’Orchestra Di Piazza Vittorio’s Carmen Secondo.
Meanwhile, tickets for Seal, Hotel Paradiso, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Flown, and Chaos in the Town will go on sale on February 24.
The two-month line-up includes a variety of singers, dancers, performers and acrobats over 54 acts and events.
It will run from February 25 to April 25, and will start with the Lebanese Carcalla Dance Theatre’s Kan Ya Ma Kan (Once Upon A Time) at the Bahrain National Theatre.
The event, on February 25, will take place at 8pm.
Every Thursday, starting on February 25, a performance by Bahraini traditional band Mohammed bin Faris will take place at the Mohammed Bin Faris Music Hall in Muharraq.
Japanese violinist Mika Nishimura will perform on February 29 at 8pm at the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Centre for Culture and Research, Muharraq.
It will be followed by Turkish actor and singer Halit Ergenc’s performance on March 3 at 8pm at the Bahrain National Theatre, accompanied by the Cinema Symphony Orchestra conducted by Serdar Yalcin.
On March 3 through to 5, Dutch street artist Bram Graafland will perform his The Yelling Kitchen Prince across the country.
On March 3, he will perform at Nakheel Centre, Saar at 4pm and 7pm.
On March 4, it will be at the Prince Khalifa bin Salman Park in Hidd at 5pm and 8pm.
On March 5, he will be at Bahrain Fort at 11am and 5pm.
On March 5, Grammy-award winning jazz singer Gregory Porter will take to the stage in Arad Fort. On the same night, Portuguese Fado singer Liana will perform at the La Fontaine Centre for Contemporary Art, Manama.
On March 7, Saudi poet Badia Kashgari will give a reading and talk at the Ebrahim Al Arrayed Poetry House, Muharraq at 8pm.
On March 9, one of the most loved and respected Arab singers Kadim Al Sahir will be preforming at Arad Fort at 8.30pm.
The Iraqi singer has sold more than 100 million albums in his career and performed to millions around the world.
Czech black theatre, pantomime and modern dance group Image Theatre will perform at the Cultural Hall at 5pm on both March 11 and 12.
On March 11, British dance company Akram Khan will perform Kaash, which was done in collaboration with celebrated artists Anish Kapoor and Nitin Sawhney.
The choreographed show includes themes such as Hindu Gods, black holes, Indian time cycles, tablas and creation.
An Egyptian troupe will take to the stage for Leila El Kebira at the Culture Hall on March 17 and 18 at 8pm.
The show is based on poet Salal Jaheen’s El Leila El Kebira (The Big Night), and follows a number of characters across Egypt in a style that incorporates Arab and Western music ensembles and songs, as well as some ballet.
Also on March 17, Italain troupe L’Orchestra Di Piazza Vittorio will perform Carmen Secondo at Arad Fort at 8.30pm.
Meanwhile, a two-day film festival will be held at Al Riwaq Art Space, Manama on March 17 and 18.
The Green Caravan Film Festival will include Middle Eastern short films, alongside international feature-length documentaries, discussion panels and Q&A sessions.
Grammy-award winning artist Seal, who has sold more than 30 million records around the world, will perform on March 24 at 8.30pm in Arad Fort.
Seal is known for his massive hits which include Killer, Kiss From a Rose and Crazy.
On March 24, the 17th Bahrain International Book Fair will also kick off at the Bahrain National Theatre, running until April 3.
It will be open daily from 9am to 1pm and 4.30pm to 9.30pm, and on Fridays from 4pm to 10pm.
Internationally acclaimed Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela will light up the stage with an electrifying acoustic performance on March 31 at 8.30pm at Arad Fort.
British circus theatre company Pirates of the Carabina will put their Flown show on at Arad Fort from April 7 to 9 at 7.30pm.
The award-winning show features acrobats, aerialists, stuntmen and musicians.
