Turkish authorities recently released a video of a man attempting arson in the 1,500-year-old Hagia Sophia, one of Türkiye's most significant landmarks.
The incident took place on July 11 at around 10 pm when a man tried to commit arson by setting a Bible on fire and hiding it behind a lectern before leaving.
The fire caused no major damage, and the perpetrator was quickly apprehended.
Following an investigation, it was revealed that the arsonist has an extensive criminal record and has been admitted to psychiatric hospitals on at least five occasions.
The suspect was subsequently sent to prison on charges of attacking a place of worship.
