A historical period drama film, Brooklyn, comes to the screen tonight at Bahrain Cinema Club, Juffair from 7pm.
The film is based on Colm Toibin’s novel of the same name and features a star-studded cast.
Set in 1951 and 1952, it tells the story of a young Irish woman’s immigration to Brooklyn, where she quickly falls into a romance.
Lured by the promise of America, Eilis Lacey leaves Ireland and the comfort of her mother’s home for the shores of New York City.
The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love.
But soon, her new vivacity is disrupted by her past, and she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.
Directed by John Crowley, Brooklyn was nominated for three Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Screenplay.
In addition, Saiorse Ronan who played Lacey was also nominated for a Golden Globe and BAFTA for Best Actress.
