Dubai: The FlyDubai airline will pay $20,000 to the families of passengers, who died at the crash of the Boeing 737-800 at Russia's Rostov-on-Don airport, the company said in a statement on Sunday.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the airline said, “At present, our priority is to identify and contact the families of those lost in the tragic accident and provide immediate support to those affected. FlyDubai will additionally organise a programme of hardship payments to the families amounting to $20,000 per passenger, in accordance with our Conditions of Carriage, with the aim of addressing immediate financial needs.”
On Saturday, a FlyDubai plane crashed in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don killing all 62 passengers and crew on board, reported local Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm.
The flight was en route from Dubai and crashed during a landing approach.
A Russian investigative committee confirmed in a statement that all 62 people, including seven crew members, on board the flight FZ981, travelling from Dubai, were killed in the crash on Saturday morning.
“During the landing approach a Boeing-737 crashed. It had 55 passengers on board. All of them died,” a regional spokesman told TASS.
FlyDubai issued a statement saying it "very much regrets to confirm that the accident involving flight number FZ981 at Rostov-on-Don earlier has resulted in 55 passenger fatalities including 33 women, 18 men and 4 children.The nationalities of the deceased passengers include 44 Russians, 8 Ukrainians, 2 Indians and 1 Uzbekistani."
There was no immediate information on the cause, although some news reports suggested weather could have been a factor.
