Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Health Authority issued a warning against using the sex enhancer 'Black Ant', stating in the advisory that it is "a product of unknown origin".
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has also advised consumers not to purchase or use 'Black Ant', a product for sexual enhancement sold on various websites.
It debunked claims made for the product which falsely state that 'Black Ant' is a "natural sexual enhancer" and that it has "no known side effects."
FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Black Ant contains sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, an FDA approved prescription drug for Erectile Dysfunction (ED).
Sildenafil may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.
Men with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease often take nitrates.
The Abu Dhabi Health Authority has so far blacklisted 392 products which are classified as fake and unregistered with the Health Ministry.
The regulatory authority warned against using fake sexual enhancers which may have dangerous health-related side effects.
