Manama: A woman has been arrested for a second time over the death of a three-month-old child, who she claimed was killed by her husband – the infant’s father.
The GDN previously reported that the child’s Bahraini father, 29, was accused of killing his own son, his child from a second marriage.
However, the man’s first wife has now been detained based on a recording of a phone conversation that allegedly implicates her in the death, sources told the GDN.
The Syrian mother of the child, the man’s second wife, was out of the country when her son died.
Police initially arrested the father and his first wife, but released the latter after she claimed he was an abusive father who beat his child to death.
She is once again in custody after her husband provided a copy of a phone conversation during a remand hearing, which sources said indicated that she had dropped the infant.
A medical examiner’s report concluded the child suffered a severe fracture to the skull from a blow to the back of his head.
Both the first wife and the husband, who shares an apartment with both of his wives in Galali, have been remanded in custody until April 15 while investigations continue.
In a previous statement to prosecutors the first wife claimed she saw her husband repeatedly beat his Syrian wife and their infant child – and once saw him “throwing him (his son) head first into a wall”.
The husband denied the allegations during questioning at the Public Prosecution and claimed he was not present when his son suffered the fatal injury in an accident at his home.
He claimed his son suffered convulsions and denied assaulting him, even though the child’s body had bruises and bite marks.
