OVER 3,000 students from various schools across the Kingdom have so far registered for the Third Schools Mini Olympics.
The event, to be held from April 21 until May 5, has attracted 34 schools in total, including 16 government and 18 private. Competition will be held in 10 sport disciplines, including three team sports – football, basketball and volleyball.
It is being organised by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
According to Human Resources and Administrative Services manager Fadi Humaidan, the organising committee has finalised the timetable and venues for each competition.
Competitions
The volleyball championship is due to take place at Bahrain Volleyball Association gym in Riffa. Football at Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa and Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.
The Bahrain Volleyball Association gym in Isa Sports City in Riffa will host the volleyball championships while the basketball tournament is due to take place at Um Al Hassam Complex.
Other competitions include athletics (Khalifa Sports City track), aquathlon (Sofitel Bahrain), swimming (Khalifa Sports City), table tennis (Bahrain Table Tennis Association), taekwondo (Bahrain Handball Association) and special needs athletics (Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation).
The main goal of the Mini Olympics is to promote the concept of healthy competition and highlight the principles of Olympic values and ideals.
It also seeks to motivate students to practice sports activities and follow a healthy life style.
