TWO experienced journalists – Andrews Victor and Stanley Szecowka – have been appointed associate editors of the Gulf Daily News following the retirement of editor-in-chief George Williams.
They will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the newspaper, online operation and social media platform.
Responsible editor Anwar Abdulrahman will take on the supervisory position of editor-in-chief.
Mr Victor, from the city of Pune, worked for major national titles in his home country including The Times of India and Indian Express – plus Gulf News in Dubai – before joining the GDN’s sub-editors table in 1992.
He worked his way up to the position of chief sub-editor before stepping over to the news gathering side of the operation and taking on the post of news editor.
Mr Szecowka, an award-winning British journalist and publisher, worked for national and regional newspapers in the UK, including deputy editor roles at the Bristol Evening Post and Hull Daily Mail, before being appointed editor of the GDN’s sister newspaper, Gulf Weekly, in 2007.
He was later promoted to the position of editor of GDNonline and helped launch GDNlife, our unique social media platform, earlier this year.
