MANAMA: Bahrain’s Cabinet has given the green signal to a major employment programme that aims to create 25,000 jobs this year.
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince Prime Minister, chaired the weekly meeting and ordered the implementation of the National Employment Programme in its second edition.
The ambitious three-pronged scheme also aims to create 10,000 training opportunities annually.
Under the first initiative of the programme, Tamkeen will allocate BD120 million for three years.
This doubles the budget allocated over the past five years to employ Bahrainis and support their wages.
The amounts and duration of support provided to those featuring on the lists of the Labour and Social Development Ministry, as well as new entrants to the labour market will be increased.
Under the second initiative, the duration of the job vacancy announcements will be extended from two to three weeks before recruiting expatriates.
The third initiative stipulates a tougher security clampdown on illegal workers, in addition to continuing the implementation of the initiatives announced in the first edition.
The Cabinet also welcomed a statement by the White House designating Bahrain and the UAE major security partners.
This increases the impetus to further the partnership, which has achieved a notable success in confronting regional and global challenges, the Cabinet noted.
