Red Bull driver Sergio “Checo” Perez, who won the Sakhir Grand Prix, has set the fastest time seen so far in the three-day pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC).
The Mexican driver’s time of one minute 30.187 seconds was 0.299 seconds faster than Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, 0.474 seconds faster than Bahrain-owned McLaren’s Lando Norris and 0.102 seconds quicker than the fastest time set by Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas yesterday.
Further down the scoreboard this morning, were, in order, Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri), Esteban Ocon (Alpine), Mick Schumacher (Haas), Bottas (Mercedes), George Russell (Williams), Kimi Raikkonen (Alfa Romeo) and Lance Stroll (Aston Martin).
In a session unbridled by the weather conditions seen over the last couple of days, all teams were able to get plenty of consistent data driving on a sunny and relatively wind-less track.
Raikkonen churned out 91 laps, the most of any driver on the track, followed by Bottas who completed 84 laps around the track.
Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren), Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin), Nikita Mazepin (Haas), Fernando Alonso (Alpine), Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri), Max
Verstappen (Red Bull), Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) will be racing in the afternoon.
Missing from the scoreboard today will be Nicholas Latifi (Williams), who did his testing yesterday and Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo).
The final session of pre-season testing kicks off at 3pm today.
