Riyadh: A Saudi man who left his wife 32 years ago has been ordered to pay an alimony of SR2.88 million to the wife.
The woman sought the family court’s help in the Red Sea city of Jeddah this year.
The family court ruled in favour of the wife after she produced evidence that her husband left her after she had their baby without any concern about her situation, reported Gulf News.
Two witnesses testified in court corroborating the ex-wife’s account.
The court observed that the Saudi man left her wife without any commitment towards financial responsibility.
An investigation was launched into the case to ascertain the Saudi man’s current salary.
The court learned that he was earning around SR80,000 a month.
The judge ruled that the husband must pay SR4,000 for each of the 384 months he left his wife without his financial support, a total of SR1.536 million.
Also, he was ordered to pay SR4,000 for each of the 336 months he did not support his son, a total of SR1.344 million.
In total, he will have to pay SR2.880 million.
Apart from this, the court ordered him to pay a monthly alimony of SR5,000.
This amount will be doubled on the occasion of two Islamic festivals celebrated in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi citizen did not oppose the verdict, report said.
