Red Bull Max Verstappen continued his domination streak as he topped the third practice of the weekend at the Bahrain International Circuit, with a best lap of one minute 30.577 seconds.
World champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes trailed by 0.739 seconds while AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly took the third spot on the time sheet.
To round off the top 10 were, in order, Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), Sergio Perez (Red Bull), Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), Kimi Raikkonen (Alfa Romeo), Esteban Ocon (Alpine), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) and Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren).
The results of the practice sessions firmly make Verstappen the favourite to take pole position in this evening’s qualifying session but the flying Dutchman could see competition from Hamilton and Bottas as the track starts to cool down for the evening session.
The qualifying session takes place at 6pm and will determine the starting grid for the season-opening Bahrain Gulf Air Grand Prix tomorrow evening.
Up next at the BIC is the first race of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East.
