Tonnes of waste wash up on Karbabad coast
Why do we keep thinking clean-ups are the solution? We need some support in the form of legislation by banning single-use plastic bags and cutlery, or at the very least, huge taxes on their import or production. When the consumer gets charged extra for plastic, that’s the only time people will change. I, for one, have almost given up on clean-ups unless there is some support from the government in restricting plastic use in the first place.

Just to clarify, I’m not against clean-ups. The various organisations in Bahrain are doing a commendable job. I’m just trying to emphasise that we need to solve this from the root.

Yes, that’s what we mentioned in our statement. Clean-up results are positive, timely and they get the job done by the outstanding support of our amazing members, volunteers and operations team. However, they are short-term results. Strong legislation are recommended to put an end to these pollution issues. We strongly believe that the respective authorities will take action towards this concern for the best of all.

Bahrain has beautiful beaches, people visiting the beaches need to be mindful of the environment and make efforts to preserve the beauty of beaches in Bahrain. Always take back what you brought to the beach.

Massive clean-up drive after pollution alert
Cause some people are just nasty. They eat and enjoy, but don’t have the common decency to throw trash in the bin, or take it with them till they pass by a bin.
