MANAMA: A committee in charge of drawing up a comprehensive national strategy for electric vehicles has been set up in co-operation with the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry, Sustainable Energy Authority president Dr Abdulhussain Mirza said yesterday.
The plan will include details of electric car charging stations, types of charging sockets, tariffs, the authority entitled to issue charging station licences and the authority in charge of regulating such operations, he said.
The committee has appointed a consultancy to draw up a plan to evaluate the market’s readiness for the use of electric vehicles.
It has also contacted car import companies to seek their recommendations in this regard, Dr Mirza told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
The Electricity and Water Ministry recently inaugurated Bahrain’s first electric car charging station at the Atrium Mall’s car park in Saar.
