TWO urgent proposals, to replace expats with Bahrainis in the infrastructure and health sectors, were submitted by MPs yesterday.
In the first proposal, MPs led by Ammar Al Mukhtar said the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry has several jobs that qualified Bahrainis could apply for.
“Qualified and competent Bahrainis could handle technical and engineering jobs,” said Mr Al Mukhtar.
In August last year, Minister Essam Khalaf told MPs that 446 expatriate employees were hired on contracts at the ministry at a cost of BD17 million over two years.
He, however, added expatriates comprised only 17 per cent of the ministry’s workforce.
Meanwhile, the same group of MPs is also proposing full Bahrainisation in the dentistry sector.
“There is a huge queue of Bahrainis that can take up dentistry jobs.”
The proposals will be now forwarded by Parliament Speaker Fouzia Zainal to the services committee for review and presentation when the final term commences in October.
