MANAMA: The public outcry against the rise in electricity bills during the last few months is now resonating in the chambers of Bahrain’s Parliament.
The Al Taqadom bloc has submitted a proposal to increase the number of subsidised thresholds of consumption based on the number of families living in a house.
In a statement to our sister newspaper Akhbar Al Khaleej, its member Falah Hashim said that the government subsidy of electricity and water is meant to benefit all Bahraini families.
But a number of younger families do not reap any benefit because they still live with their parents pending obtaining a house from one of the government’s housing schemes, he said.
MP Mohammed Buhamood said he intends to submit a proposal to increase the electricity subsidy to limited-income families registered on the lists of the Labour and Social Development Ministry for the summer months.
