An adverts war has broken out between two major telecommunication companies in Bahrain, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej. It was started by stc placing a short video promotion on its Instagram account featuring well-known Bahraini actor Jama’an Al Rowie. He was shown entering an stc retail shop with his son and asking for a fibre optic plan.
He was accompanied by his lawyer. The stc agent asked: “Why a lawyer?” To check the “contract”, answered Jama’an. The stc man replied: “What contract? ... there is none. We are not like…….”, hinting at stc competitors.
Batelco hit back a few days later on its Instagram. A friend of Jama’an, actor Ahmed Mojli, enters a Batelco shop with his son who wanted a fast Internet, really fast not like …… (referring to Batelco’s competitors).
A Batelco sale representative assured him it is like a rocket. Upon hearing this, Mojli picked up his mobile to call his friend Jama’an to warn him not to fall into the trap of the other company. His attempts were in vain because his friend had no connection.
Followers on Instagram liked the duel between the two companies. It was fun and a good idea to promote their products. Many think it was clever marketing and fair competition.
