All Bahraini visitors staying at a blaze-stricken Syrian hotel in Sayyidah Zaynab are safe although some suffered from smoke inhalation, the Bahrain Embassy in Damascus said today.
Reports cited that one person was killed and nine others injured in a fire last night at the Pearl of the Orient Hotel in the town located in the Damascus countryside governorate.
Efforts were coordinated to ensure the safety of all Bahraini visitors,” the mission said on its Twitter social media account. There are no Bahrainis among the victims or injured so far." It added that some had suffered from the suffocating smoke.
The Damascus police command did not mention the cause of the fire. Images of flames on the roof of the hotel were posted on social media, with people saying the fire broke out in 'fuel tanks on the roof'. The blaze was brought under control by fire-fighters.
