Riyadh: A Saudi Imam has been suspended from leading prayers and delivering sermons for allowing a party to held at Basabrine Mosque on the first day of Eid Al-Fitr. A video recording of the event, which was held last Wednesday, went viral online, causing outrage among the Saudi society.
The footage showed people dancing the traditional “Shila” and eating food inside the mosque with is located at Salhiya district in the city of Jeddah. The Islamic Affairs Directorate in the province of Mecca question the Imam summoned the Imam who expressed deep regret.
Twitter users have launched hashtag #dance_inside_mosque which prompted the authorities to take measures.
