THE Works Ministry yesterday announced the opening of the Fourth Package of North Muharraq Highway Project tender for building the fourth bridge between Muharraq and Manama.
The strategic project is one of the major infrastructures financed by the Saudi Fund for Development.
Reclamation work on the new BD94 million Signature Bridge started in 2019.
The 550m bridge, suspended 93 metres above sea level is an extension of the 7.8km-long North Muharraq Highway project which also includes the 4.2km-long Muharraq ring road.
It will connect north Busaiteen and Bahrain Bay.
“The project includes the construction of two bridges – the first is a 482m sea bridge that will connect Al Sayah area to the Bahrain Financial Harbour,” said a statement.
“It will have five lanes in each direction, with a separate path for pedestrians and cyclists on both sides.”
The ministry added the second bridge is 390m in length with three traffic lanes (one-way) for motorists comings from Al Saya and Busaiteen heading to Al Fateh Highway.
The project encompasses more than 21km of new roads, 11 junctions and a new Signature Bridge.
The project is a continuation of the Muharraq ring road as it starts from Samaheej/Diyar Al Muharraq and passes by Dair, Busaiteen and Al Saya up to Bahrain Bay in the north of Manama.
“The ministry has completed different project phases that includes reclamation, coastal protection and extensions towards Al Saya, Bahrain Bay and other locations.”
