Bahrain yesterday qualified for the promotional playoffs from Group ‘B’ of the Davis Cup Asian-Oceania Group Four defeating Tajikistan 2-1 in a thriller in Amman.
In the first singles, Abdulkarim Abdulredha defeated Mirkhusein Yakhyaev 7-5, 6-0 while his teammate Hassan Abdulredha lost to Anvar Rakhmatov 1-6, 5-7,
In the doubles, the Bahraini pair of Hassan and Abdulkarim rallied from a set down to beat their Tajikistan opponents Yakhyaev and Rakhmatov 4-7, 7-5, 6-4.
Bahrain now take on the UAE, who topped Group ‘A’, and the winner will be promoted to Asia-Oceania Group Three next year.
The Bahrain national team players are Yousif Ibrahim Qaed, Hassan Abdulredha Jassim, Abdulkarim Abdulredha Abdulnabi and Elyas Abdulredha Abdulnabi.
The Bahrain delegation is headed by Bahrain Tennis Federation board member and head of national teams committee Mohammed Ali Salman and coached by Essam Abdul A’al.
Earlier, Bahrain beat Mongolia 2-1, lost to Jordan 0-3 and beat Iraq 3-0 on Thursday.
Teams competing in Group Four are the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Myanmar and Oman in Group ‘A’ and Jordan, Bahrain, Iraq, Tajikistan and Mongolia in Group ‘B’.
