Famous fashion designers from across the globe will be featuring a series of their show-stopping runway looks tomorrow at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain along with mesmerising pieces paying tribute to the kingdom’s 50th anniversary.
The first edition of The International Bahrain Fashion Weekend, featuring couture gowns carefully curated for the Middle East by five top designers, will be held under the patronage of Shaikha Marwa bint Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, the founder of the renowned Bayanah brand.
“This is going to be an exceptional event as we are gathering these famous fashion designers for the first time in Bahrain, so expect something extraordinary,” said Amina Leelo Weewo, founder and chief executive of Stella Polare Boutique Events, who are organising the show.
“This event will be something everyone will be happy about as we will be witnessing beautiful designs by creatives from around the world.”
The Grand Gala Night will include a fashion show starting at 5.30pm on Saturday featuring Bahraini Noof Al Shekar’s NS by Noof luxury bags, Iraqi designer Hana Sadiq’s stunners specialising in integrating Arabic art with haut couture, Portuguese Micaela Oliveira with her bridal gowns and princess dresses, and award-winning Mexican designer Kris Goyri, known for his ‘feminine and fresh’ fashion style.
Model, entrepreneur and actress from Northern Ireland, Kiera Chaplin, who is the granddaughter of legendary movie star Charlie Chaplin, will be featuring her luxe shawl collection, in collaboration with JANAVI India X, founded by Jyotika Jhalani who shares the coolness of cashmere with the world.
The headlining designer, Malan Breton, is a favourite of fashionistas around the globe. The Taiwanese-born designer, who lives in France, is known for his work as a film and music video director, a columnist, costume designer, musician, television and film producer, Goodwill Ambassador to Taiwan, ambassador to the UK Parliament / Parliamentary Society and actor.
He launched his namesake fashion label ‘Malan Breton’ in 2005, Malan Breton Homme in 2010, and Fantôme Malan Breton in 2012.
“He is an amazing designer, creating looks for different stars and celebrities,” added Ms Weewo.
“He has dressed the Desperate Housewives of New York and the top models of Australia, as well as global stars such as Emma Thompson. We’re very excited to have him headlining and he will be unveiling something unique for the whole world to see as we will also be showcasing this virtually.
“Also, each designer has created one special piece paying homage to Bahrain’s National Day.”
A lavish dinner will be held after the show at 9.30pm, featuring performances from musical artists Karl Wine, who recorded Je t’aime Bahrain, and Bahraini’s soulful star Banah. Also attending the event will be international VIP guests such as Rebeca Riofrio, the UK director for the Parliament Society for Arts, Fashion & Sports.
On December 12, there will be a ‘Meet the Masters’ where members of the media, fashion advocates and bloggers, students and VIP guests will have the opportunity to meet some of the top fashion designers.
