A FORMER long-time resident of Bahrain has died in India.
Chandrasen Bhatia, who spent nearly 64 years in the kingdom, died of a cardiac arrest in Mumbai on February 24 and was cremated the following day.
He was aged 87.
Born in March 1935 in Thatta, in present-day Pakistan, Mr Bhatia arrived in Bahrain in 1954 as a 19-year-old.
He started his career as a clerk in the British Bank of the Middle East (BBME), now HSBC, before setting up his own textile business in Manama.
He managed his business until he retired in 2018 and returned to Mumbai.
Mr Bhatia served as an honorary committee member of the Thattai Hindu Community and was a member of the Thattai Hindu Merchant Community.
He is survived by sons Mahesh, aged 60, and Nilesh, aged 55, who live and work in Bahrain.
