BAHRAIN has more men than women – a trend that has not changed since 2012.
According to the data for 2021 released by the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), the total population was 1,504,365 – 925,747 males and 578,618 females.
The population in 2020 was 1,472,204 (925,036 males and 547,168 females).

The 2021 data also showed that of the total population, 719,333 were Bahrainis and 785,032 were expats.

The Capital Governorate continues to be densely populated (538,965) followed by Northern Governorate (396,779); Southern Governorate (305,191) and Muharraq Governorate (263,430).
According to projections, the kingdom’s population is set to increase from 1.5 million last year to more than 2m by 2032, with a gradual increase of 50,000 forecast every year.
The estimates were arrived at with the help of the Cohort Component Method which assumes that demographic change, mortality, fertility and migration will remain constant throughout the projection period.
