Kuwait City: A major sandstorm across Kuwait temporarily halted flight operations at Kuwait International Airport on Monday and caused air travel delays.
“Regular traffic to and from Kuwait International Airport resumed at 6pm after an hour and a half of suspension due to a dust storm, visibility has subsided across Kuwait,” said Imad Al Jalawi, Kuwait’s Deputy Director General of Air Navigation Services, in a statement to KUNA.
Kuwait’s Education Minister Dr Ali Al Mudhaf has also announced the suspension of schools for a day in the country on Tuesday, May 17.
The ministry said in a press statement that schools will resume operations on Wednesday, May 18.
Kuwait has been blanketed in a thick orange haze that severely reduced visibility since Monday and has experienced strong winds with a speed of more than 50km/h.
