Enthusiastic supporters of Rangers, the Scottish football team, gathered at the Bahrain Rugby Football Club last night to cheer their team on against Eintracht Frankfurt in the final of the Europa League.
“We call ourselves the ‘Bahrain True Blues Rangers Supporters’,” Steven Boyce, a Scotsman who has lived in the Kingdom for over 14 years, told the GDN before the start of the match. “We’re not a club, per se: we’re just a group of passionate Rangers supporters who get together every time our team plays.”
The group, which first banded together in 2002, is celebrating their 20th anniversary, Boyce, who works as a director of business development in a Saudi company, said.
“Most of us are Scottish, as you would imagine,” he laughed. “But there’s a few Englishmen as well, and some others from around the world.
It’s always fun to watch a Rangers game as a group and tonight will be more intense because it’s a cup final. Emotions will be running high but I’m quietly confident that we will win because we’ve beaten a couple of good German teams on our way to the final.”
