FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN’S women’s football national team are back in action today for their second Group C match in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers.
The Bahrainis are set to take on their counterparts from Turkmenistan as they hope to bounce back from a heavy 0-7 defeat to Bangladesh in their opening fixture earlier this week.
Their game today is scheduled for a revised 3.30pm kick-off, Bahrain time, at Thuwunna Stadium in the city of Yangon in Myanmar.
Hosts Myanmar face the Bangladeshis in the other divisional clash, scheduled for 12.30pm, also Bahrain.
Myanmar posted a big 8-0 victory over Turkmenistan in their previous game.
Bahrain are aiming to secure an historic first-ever berth in the prestigious Asian Football Con-federation (AFC) women’s competition, which is set to take place in March of next year in Australia, but their opening-day loss was a major blow.
They must win today and then again against Myanmar on Saturday and hope that other results go in their favour.
Bahrain are one of 34 women’s national teams taking part in qualifying, divided into eight groups. Each is being held at a centralised location, and only the group winners will punch their tickets to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026.
Bahrain head coach Mohammed Adnan has a team in Myanmar that includes Hessa Alisa, Eman Alkhattal, Fatema Alnesuf, Rawan Alali, Amira Sowar, Alyaa Almudhahki, Manar Ya-qoob, Leleya Sabkar, Sama Qasem, Manayer Ahmed Thani, Khulood Abdulla, Alanood Al-mannaei, Farah Khaled, Shooq Mohamed Fares, Eman Ramadhan, Jawaher Leqmani, Ameena Aldoseri, Fatema Mohamed Salman, Noora Marzooq, Shooq Alalwani, and Yasmeen Al Yaqoobi.
