A MAN is on trial for allegedly assaulting his friend and then stealing his car.
In his complaint, a 38-year-old Indian man said that in March a Pakistani man, age 37, lured him to an area, promising him a job as a cleaner in a home in Manama.
However, the defendant is then said to have attacked him, before driving off in his vehicle.
The defendant appeared at the High Criminal Court and denied theft and assault.
“I went to the location where my friend (the defendant) said to meet him, adding that he had found me a job to clean a home,” said the victim as he described his ordeal to prosecutors.
“I waited in the car. As soon as my friend arrived he pulled me by my shirt and hit me on the head.
“He said that he would take my car until I returned his belongings. I then went and reported the matter to the police.”
The defendant said that the vehicle was given to him by the victim to use until he could pay back money he owed him.
“I did not steal the car,” he told prosecutors in his statement.
“The victim gave me his vehicle of his own free will, I did not force him.
“He owed me money and said that I could keep the car until he paid me back .”
The trial has been adjourned until Tuesday for review.
