Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), received Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria.
The meeting discussed several key topics, most notably the brutal Iranian aggressions targeting the GCC states and the implications of the dangerous escalation currently witnessed in the region. It also reviewed the consequences of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasising the direct threat this poses to regional and international security and stability.
Minister Meinl-Reisinger reaffirmed her country’s steadfast support for the GCC states in the face of these treacherous attacks, underscoring the necessity of intensifying international efforts to halt these aggressions and protect the security and stability of the region.
For his part, Albudaiwi expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Austria's supportive stance in confronting these aggressions, the efforts it is making to halt the escalation in the region, and its support for the adoption of the United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution 2817.
The meeting also featured a review of GCC-Austrian ties and means to further develop them to achieve mutual interests, as well as an exploration of GCC-European Unio (EU) relations and the importance of solidifying these ties. Additionally, they followed up on the latest developments regarding the Joint Work Programme (2022–2027) and exchanged views on the most recent regional and international developments.
