Telecom customers have the power to activate new lines and upgrade their packages at their fingertips, thanks to a newly-launched Digital Shop.
Batelco unveiled its latest high-tech operation on the ground floor of Wadi Al Sail Mall yesterday to invited guests and members of the media, showcasing its touch-screen capabilities, smooth transactions and easy-to-use functions created to ‘elevate users retail experience’.
“The Digital Shop allows customers to complete 90 per cent of all Batelco retail transactions through a simple, highly-intuitive digital journey, combining a state-of-the-art digital authentication platform and robotic process automation platform,” said Batelco’s general manager consumer division, Maitham Abdulla, at the beginning of the launch.
The telecom giant’s IT development specialist Walaa Radhi demonstrated how customers can instantly register and activate a new post-paid or prepaid line and receive a new SIM card, in just a few simple steps. She also explained that customers could upgrade their packages and, through a live chat function, speak to a customer care agent for any extra support.
Those interested in purchasing new devices can also check through the Digital Shop to find out which branch has the product. People can also pay their bills through the bilingual machine, refill vouchers, replace eSIM or SIM cards and more.
“The Digital Shop was created to allow customers to do all of those things that they currently do in a retail store but in an entirely more convenient and simple way,” said Batelco’s director digital channels, Michael Hegarty. “We try and think from a user perspective and are super keen to make sure that what we present to customers is useful and from what they tell us they need.
“This is only the first step in a really ambitious digital strategy for Batelco and the intention is to accelerate the digital presence next year. We want to give customers the choice to use digital when it’s convenient and useful for them, while still maintaining a retail presence in areas to support other queries where customers still want that human interaction.”
Mr Abdulla added that customers can look forward to seeing more Batelco Digital Shops opening at popular locations around Bahrain and many new exciting features will be added to the list of functions in the future.
To celebrate the launch, all customers who register a new post-paid line at the Digital Shop will receive one month free on their selected package. The special offer is available for a limited time only.
