HORSERACING – SAN Diego and Fury won their respective Future Stars races last night to headline an exciting card at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
San Diego won the Future Stars Champions Leg One, run over 1,400 metres, while Fury took the Future Stars Sprint Leg One, which covered 1,000m.
San Diego triumphed for owner Abdulla Fawzi Nass and trainer Fawzi Nass with Husain Makki in the saddle to secure the lion’s share of the BD4,000 prize.
The three-year-old filly finished ahead of runner-up Hunters Call, competing for Al Adiyat Racing, Daniel and Claire Kubler, and Ebrahim Nader, while Tsundoku finished third for M and E Racing, Paul Smith, and Lee Newman. Diyar was fourth to complete the prize winners for Al Mohamediya Racing, Ali Abdulmajeed, and Soufiane Saadi.
Meanwhile, Fury won the Future Stars Sprint Leg to claim the winner’s portion of the BD4,000 prize. Competing for owners Mohamediya and trainer Fawzi Nass, Saadi steered the three-year-old gelding to first place ahead of Ebrood, racing for Shaikh Salman bin Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Paul Smith, and Abdulrahim Jasim.
Desert Empress was third for Victorious Forever, Smith, and Edinson Rodriguez, while Mirage came fourth for Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Robert McDowall, and Abdulla Faisal.
Last night’s meeting at REHC marked the resumption of races, without any fans in attendance, following the recent suspension of action due to the unfortunate events currently taking place in the kingdom and the region.
