A Bahraini woman jailed for 12 months for biting and assaulting a female police officer has lodged an appeal against her conviction.
The 30-year-old was found guilty of assault by the High Criminal Court in July.
She lodged an appeal at the Supreme Criminal Appeals Court, which has adjourned her trial until November 9.
According to court documents, the defendant was drunk when she rammed her car into another vehicle in Umm Al Naasan in May this year.
She, however, pretended to be a Saudi royal family member and threatened the police officer that she would shoot her if she inspected her car.
“We got information about a drunken woman who caused a car accident,” the 39-year-old police officer told prosecutors.
“I approached her and asked her to get out of her vehicle, but she refused.
“She insulted me when I sought to inspect her car, which reeked of alcohol. She said if I did not leave the place immediately, she would take out a weapon from her car and shoot me dead.
“She then claimed to be a Saudi royal family member.”
The authorities did not find any firearm on searching the vehicle.
The victim described how the enraged woman attempted to flee on foot before being arrested.
“She (the defendant) pushed me to the ground and tried to flee the scene,” the officer said.
“I chased her, but she attacked and bit me. However, I managed to bring her under control.
“She was behaving in a strange manner, but I made sure she did not harm anyone else in the process.”
The victim, who was arrested, said she could not remember anything as she was in an inebriated state.
“I do not remember attacking anyone,” the 30-year-old told prosecutors.
“I had a few drinks and was later arrested.
“I was scared because I saw a lot of people around my vehicle.”
