The Public Prosecution demanded the death penalty for two defendants accused of espionage for a terrorist organisation, intending to carry out terrorist and hostile acts against Bahrain. This involved taking photographs of locations where photography is prohibited, with the aim of leaking a national defence secret. The prosecution asserted that this act contributed to the current brutal Iranian aggression against the country.
This statement was made during the Public Prosecution's address today at the procedural hearing in the defendants' trial. The prosecution emphasised the significant impact of the defendants' actions and their motives for committing the crimes attributed to them. It stated that, amidst the dire circumstances facing Bahrain, and the brutal and heinous aggression in which our people endure the hardships of war and are subjected to terror and fear ; and as the nation exerts its utmost efforts to defend its borders, the defendants emerged from among us bearing the banners of allegiance to the aggressors and betraying this generous nation that sheltered them, provided for them, and nurtured them.
The Public Prosecution stated that the defendants conspired with a terrorist organisation engaged in terrorist activities, intending to carry out terrorist and hostile acts against the Kingdom of Bahrain. They also photographed locations where photography is prohibited, with the intent of leaking a national defence secret. This, the prosecution asserted, contributed to the current brutal Iranian aggression against the country.
The Public Prosecution emphasised that the security and sovereignty of the nation are paramount, and that loyalty to the homeland is non-negotiable. It stressed that the defendants' actions were not a mere transgression, but rather high treason against the nation, deserving the severest punishment without mercy: execution. The Public Prosecution concluded by stating that in all of this, it is merely a hand wielding the full force of the law against every transgressor and every treacherous fugitive.
