A funeral service was held yesterday for teenager Sera Raichel Aji Varghese who tragically died last week after suffering a cardiac arrest arising from diabetes-related complications, writes Naman Arora.
The 14-year-old, who studied in Grade 9 at the Asian School, was laid to rest during a live-streamed funeral service at the St Thomas Malankara Roman Catholic Church in Madavana, Chengannur in Kerala, India.
As reported in the GDN, she had been taken to a hospital around 1am last Thursday, after she began vomiting and suddenly lost consciousness. Despite the best efforts of medics she later passed away.
Her parents Aji K Varghese and Manju Varghese were joined in India for the funeral service by her elder sister, Shraddha Mariam Aji Varghese, who is currently studying abroad, as well as other family members.
Thousands of messages of condolence were registered by members of the community on GDN social media platforms sharing their shock, sadness and solidarity with the family.
