A parliamentary committee looking into the performance of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority has demanded that the conversion of a tourist visa into a work permit be stopped with immediate effect pending verification of the legality of the authority’s granting of work permits to tourists entering the kingdom.
This came during a meeting of the committee, chaired by Mamdouh Al Saleh, with LMRA chairman Jameel Humaidan, board members and chief executive Nouf Jamsheer, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
A total of 46,204 tourists had their visas changed into work permits in 2022, and 7,878 tourists until February this year.
