A VARIETY of interesting workshops have been lined up for art enthusiasts this month at Al Jasra Crafts Training Centre.
* A Soap-Making Workshop will teach participants the basics of creating soap and the methods of scenting it with specific additions of oils and herbs, in addition to other useful information related to the craft. It will be held today from 5pm to 7pm.
* A children’s reading workshop titled ‘Let’s read with Yusra’, will immerse them in the story of Nakhla (the beloved palm) and its deep- ly-rooted history in Bahrain. It will introduce them to the most important parts of the palm tree and how to use it in a productive and creative way. Children will also participate in preparing a healthy dish containing dates, walnuts and nuts, in the event which takes place on Saturday from 10am to 12pm. It is open to those aged five to 11.
* A Professional Mobile Photography Workshop aims to teach participants how to take great photos using their smartphones. The workshop will be led in Arabic and is open to those aged 14 and above. It will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Monday and Tuesday.
* A Boat Making Workshop will teach participants how to identify the different types of wood and chop them for manufacturing model ships, how to mould ship’s accessories as well as how to draw and carve a piece of wood and sand it. Another workshop (second level) will introduce participants to the history of Arabic calligraphy, the main types of fonts and its importance as an art form. They will also learn about the tools used and how to employ them. Both workshops will be held on Saturday, May 20 and 27 from 10am to 12.30pm.
* A Pottery on the Wheel workshop will cover such topics as types of clay and the tools used in shaping, methods of clay wedging and kneading and how to shape and sculpt wheel potter clay. Two sessions will be held for the same workshop, one from 10am to 12.30pm and the other from 4pm to 6.30pm, on Saturday, May 20 and 27. All workshops are being organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities.
