A company called Space Perspective is offering couples the opportunity to get married in space.
Their website promises to take couples to the edge of space, “above 99% of the Earth’s atmosphere.”
This will be done using their SpaceBalloon, which launches from the Earth, takes passengers all the way up to the edge of space, and then brings them back to the ocean for splashdown. The entire trip is six hours, meaning guests will have enough time for both a wedding and a short reception.
The balloon itself is carbon-neutral and surrounded by giant windows. The weddings will take place in the Space Lounge, which comes with amenities like wifi, drinks and seating areas. However, couples will be limited in their guest lists as the original layout of the balloon can only take nine passengers, including the pilot.
The cost of the wedding will be at least US$ 25,000 per seat. Despite this, Jane Poynter, the co-founder of Space Perspective, told The Cool down that “we’ve already had people wanting to be the first marriage in space, so it will be cool to see who is first.”
