A PROMINENT scientist – hailed as ‘The Missile Woman of India’ – will be giving a lecture in Bahrain later this week.
Dr Tessy Thomas will be speaking on ‘Women and Scientific Progress – Enabling Gender Diversity in Aerospace Research’ as part of the Indian Ladies Association’s 2023 Leela Jashanmal Lecture.
The talk, being organised under the patronage of the Indian Embassy, will be held at the mission’s multi-purpose hall in the Seef District on Saturday at 6pm.
Dr Thomas is the first woman scientist to head a missile project in India and is the aeronautical systems director-general and former project director for Agni-IV ballistic missile at the Defence Research and Development Organisation, India.
The nuclear-capable Agni-IV, the fourth in the Agni (fire, in Hindi) series of missiles tested by India, has a range of 4,000km.
The event is free, though a registration is required due to limited seating.
